Following many years as a successful Self Employed PAT Test Engineer, our founder, Richard Antcliff TMIET became  the Quality Assurance & Technical Manager for a National Portable Appliance Testing company.  This role involved  visiting customers throughout the UK to identify their specific PAT Test requirements, based upon environment,  appliance types, attitude towards safety etc  Whilst visiting sites, it became apparent that the testing standards of some so-called PAT Test companies left a lot to  be desired.  Not only were customers being ‘ripped off’ financially, but appliances were being left in an unsafe  condition, which ultimately could lead to loss of property through fire, or even personal injury and death.   As an employer, when you call upon the services of an expert, you expect to receive a first class service - especially when the safety of your employees is your responsibility.  However, many employers are unaware of the requirements identified by the PAT Testing guidelines and the standards which should be applied by the engineer.  It is therefore very easy for a ‘cowboy’ engineer to give the impression they have done an acceptable job, when in some cases they haven’t even inspected a single appliance. Priory PAT Consultants was formed as an independent organisation to help companies get the PAT Testing service they have paid for, and to dispel the myths surrounding the whole subject of PAT Testing.  By providing employers with knowledge and training, they are better equipped to manage the PAT Testing process and less likely to fall foul of any ‘rogue traders’.
